Echo Peak No. 3

August 11th, 2002

After our immensely pleasurable climb on Cathedral Peak, Emily and I decided to go and check out another of the granite beauties that towered above us at the lake. We chose Echo Peak number 3, the tallest of the Echo Peaks.

Echo Peak is the big one to the right.

We didn't have a route description, but figured it would be hard to go wrong in this splendid area. For the third time on our little trip we hiked up Cathedral Pass to the reach the slabby upper saddle between Cathedral and the Echo peaks.

As with Cathedral, the apparent hugeness of the Echo peak dwindled a bit as we approached. We weren't really sure what to expect as Emily lead off, and the first pitch ended up being a long 4th/low 5th class scramble with a lot of loose rock. Nice still.

Next we came upon a ridge that lead to the summit. As with everything else we had encountered so far, it was easier than it looked.

We sat around on the summit for a while, enjoying the nice exposure and view, then carefully downclimbed back to our packs and then to the lake for a refreshing swim.
