Why were the decks destroyed? Who did it? The decks were destroyed to prevent the public from using the springs, which are on private property. King County pressured the owners with possible fines for structures built without permits; so the structures were torn down to protect the owners from such fines. King County had interest in closing the springs because of various problems that were associated with its heavy use, including illegal parking along the highway, and parties ending with people driving drunk. Scenic Hot Springs is currently closed to the public. People who continue to use the springs are trespassing, and may be jeopardizing the future of the springs as a public resource. Are the springs going to open to the public again? When? We hope so! That is a big part of the goal of the Scenic Preservation Association, and we're working hard for this very cause. The "when" is a harder question to answer, as it depends upon the success and speed of our fundraising. Is there a forum to discuss this? Yes, there is frequent discussion of scenic hot springs at the discussion forum on the Northwest Natural Hot Springs webpage You can donate money and/or time to the Scenic Preservation Association.
