Explanation of the Association

The Scenic Preservation Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established to restore the natural quality of Scenic Hot Springs, and to maintain and preserve the springs for appropriate, safe, public enjoyment.

This nonprofit was organized to save these springs. This will include negotiating the purchase of the property from the current owner, restoring its natural beauty, and reopening the springs for public use. This use will be in accordance with the need to preserve the spring's environmental quality.

Principle activities of SPA will be:

1. Fundraising to allow the purchase of the land and safe public access

2. Removal of debris and restoration of the spring's natural beauty. The cleanup process has been underway since June 2002. We plan to stabilize the hillside with drainage and native plants, and to create natural terracing and stone paths for safe but not-disruptive human access.

3. Manage the recreational use of the land, within conservation guidelines. By using signs and on-site caretakers, we will deter inappropriate activity.

4. Provide historical information about the site to visitors, through exhibits.

Who is in the association? How do I join?

SPA was formed after the destruction in 2001. Leadership of the loosely organized Friends of Scenic Hot Springs saw the need for a formal nonprofit corporation and began holding meetings of Scenic supporters. The SPA board include individuals that have visited, cared for, and cherished the springs for over two decades.

The current SPA Board of directors are:

Robert Johnson, Everett Chairman
Dale Wallace, Olympia President
Kory Hoggan, CPA, Redmond Treasurer
Dick Morrill, Seattle Director
John Reetz, Seattle Director
Bob Jacoby, Seattle Director

SPA welcomes new members, and information about joining can be found here.
